UBC Student Union Building
Located on University Square, the new Student Union Building (SUB) forms the central piece for a public square at the entry of UBC. This five-storey, 23,000 square meter facility includes extensive food and retail uses, club rooms, a “black box” theatre, meeting rooms and an agricultural roof garden - all focused around a central atrium / agora. As a LEED Platinum building incorporating elements of the Living Building Challenge, the new SUB is extremely energy efficient. A high-performance envelope, natural ventilation and daylight harvesting are amongst the long list of strategies integral to this low energy building.
AES provided a wide range of electrical design services, including normal, emergency and standby power distribution systems, indoor and outdoor lighting and control systems, life safety systems, and infrastructure for telecommunications, security and audio-visual systems
