Bear Mountain Pump Station No. 1 and No. 2 and Reservoir No. 1
Completed in 2006, this design-bid-build project features two pump stations equipped with modern communications and control equipment. A programmable logic controller (PLC) interfaced with radio SCADA communications devices delivers pump station status and control parameters to the central SCADA system of the Capital Regional District (CRD) Water Department. The pumps are controlled by variable frequency controllers, providing smooth transitions between stop and start status. The result is the elimination of water hammer effects, and the associated damage to infrastructure, caused by a pressure surge or wave of water. AES’ design services included radio communications, power distribution, lighting, controls and SCADA, instrumentation, commissioning and standby/emergency power.
