Annacis Research Centre, Delta, BC

The Annacis Research Centre is a state-of-the-art wastewater research facility located on Annacis Island, beside Metro Vancouver’s Annacis Island Wastewater Treatment Plant. With the goal to foster new and innovative ways to manage wastewater, the Centre is equipped with laboratory facilities for research, education and training. Facilities are also available to support the exchange of ideas through conferences, workshops, community dialogues and other events.

The design and operation of the building reflects Metro Vancouver’s commitment to sustainability. The Centre was built to LEED Gold standards, and features heating through residual heat capture from wastewater, on-site stormwater management and rainwater use for toilets. The Centre is a Wood First building, constructed from locally sourced lumber.

AES provided the preliminary design for this project, as well as the preparation of output specifications for a Design-Build tender. AES also assisted during the tender period and carried out the Owner’s Agent role during construction.
